Coffee farmers are extremely vulnerable to the volatile international market. It takes four years for a coffee plant to yield fruit – making it very difficult for farmers to respond quickly to fluctuating market prices. Fair Trade offers an alternative to conventional coffee markets. Through Fairtrade certification, coffee producers are offered a minimum price that covers the costs of sustainable production. The Swiss Water® Process uses water from the pristine environment of the coast mountains of British Columbia, Canada to gently remove the caffeine until the coffee beans are 99.9% caffeine-free, while maintaining the bean’s distinctive origin and flavor characteristics. It’s decaffeinated coffee without compromise. Right now, methylene chloride and ethyl acetate are the solvents used to decaffeinate approximately 65% of the world’s coffee. When aware of the alternatives, consumers will choose Swiss Water® Process based on it being environmentally friendly chemical-free, 99.9% caffeine-free, while supporting great taste.
